Its true, I eat sugar – can I hear the gasps in the room now please. Heres the thing though, I choose my sugar very wisely and I don’t eat it all the time. I generally use an organic cane sugar, some honey and some maple syrup. Heres what I use it in, and let me know if you would eat these same foods too:
Black bean brownies
am I getting warmer? See its all about balance, not deprivation. Of course if you have a candida overgrowth etc. then you should avoid any form of sugar but I am all about the 80/20 rule, especially for my children.
I was a Pastry Chef in a former life, I loved the creativity and that is hard to forget. Oh! the ice creams I used to make, the cakes I used to design, the french macaroons! But I digress, baking is fun for me, I love it, it gives me an outlet where I can be creative and I can make people happy with my creations. I LOVE to make peoples birthday cakes, I love to frost them, decorate them, I love to see the persons face when I show up with a big pink cake! But now I simply make healthier versions of these foods, ones that I know don’t contain high fructose corn syrup or margarine – I LOVE butter!!
So the moral of the story is, you can have your cake, and eat it too, but choose your ingredients wisely (no hydrogenated corn syrup or white sugar, refined flour or margarine) and do it in moderation and enjoy a slice (not the whole cake), savour it, think about what you are eating, and don’t you dare feel guilty afterwards!
